Annotating books?

I have been trying to find ways to better write about books for feedback, reviews and discussions. One of the key points I keep coming across is annotations but I'm having a hard time getting started, mostly I can't bring myself to mark up a book and it takes me out of the story when I keep stopping to take notes or highlight. Maybe I should try dictation? I can read and talk at the same time 🤔

I am a reader, not a writer...

Recently while visiting family I was asked by a relative if/When I was writing a book. It took me by surprise because I have never considered writing a book, I have never kept a journal,  never even written a proper review. I love reading, but more than that I love books, as physical objects! They are beautiful, feel nice to hold, smell interesting, make pleasant little sounds as you turn a page , I have yet to taste a book but I have made some delicious recipes from them. With all that said, I have never even slightly wished to write a book. I don't have the discipline, dedication or inspiration it would take. I don't enjoy writing, I have terrible grammar and could care less about correcting it. I am not sure why being an avid reader equates to being an author, I can see why it would be beneficial for aspiring authors to be well read though. Really the only reason I write this blog or attempt reviews is, I like discussing books. I find most of my books through recommendations

I am having so many typos today, I should probably avoid posting all together but I promised myself when I started this blog I'd add something everyday. I did my weekly book haul :) and I was super pleased to finally get a copy of ,House of Leaves, it's been on my wishlist for years and will be great (hopefully) October reading.

I haven't done a very good job of keeping track of my reading challenge books. I have been bad about planning all around and just grabbing as I go. It was my first attempt at a reading challenge of any kind and I  hope to be better in the coming year. I like that it makes me read out of my niche.

Listening to this fascinating audiobook while I try and organize my bookshelves. The 'hermit' was a man named Chistopher Knight, he was an avid reader. It blows my mind that he was able to survive in the manner he did for so long. I liked Michael Finkel's writing style and will look for more of his work. I also found the interviews with Christopher amusing, he had a few quotable moments. I may add those here later.

Today's library books - How to Read and Why by Harold Bloom, The Island of  Lost Maps by Miles Harvey, The Tangled Tree by David Quammen, and ,Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin.
A little about me, my name is Maudaevee, I'm an avid reader!! I started as child, I lived with my grandpa in a retirement community, technically no children were allowed, I had to be quiet and so reading was the perfect way to pass time. The library was in walking distance and I loved that I could go in and get as many books as I could carry home. Now as an adult I still love libraries, bookstores and reading, I have books everywhere and at all times. I read many genres and collect books. I'm currently focusing on dictionaries, short stories, fairytales and folklore.
